This lock was the first stop for the ancient mail boat carrying passengers from Toulouse to the Mediterranean Sea. It was the lunch stop on day one of the trip. It is for this reason that there is also a small chapel at this lock (see pictures below). The first overnight stop was in Castelnaudary.
A few meters upstream from this lock is an aqueduct, that carries the canal over a small creek called the Thésauque Creek.
This lock is also a home-base for Locaboat boat rentals, which is why you see all their bicycles up against the chapel.
