The Ognon is a small river that passes underneath the Canal Du Midi at the bottom of this lock. Like many of the rivers in this area of France, the Ognon can become quite torrential during storms. The next demi-lock a few meters downstream from here, the Porte de Garde d'Ognon, was constructed to deal with these torrential waters.
