This was the place where the ancient Barque De Poste, or Mail Boat, would stop to allow its passengers to have lunch. These boats would move up to 300 people at a time, between Toulouse and Agde. Starting in Toulouse, the passengers would stop in Castelnaudary for the night. The second night was spend in Trebes. And the third night in Le Somail. Thus this Dinee in La Redorte was the third lunch stop on the third day. The next day the passengers would arrive in Agde in the evening. In order to save time, the boats themselves would not go through all the locks. Instead, the passengers would move from one boat to another.
Horses were switched out here as well, allowing the Mail Boat to continue on to Le Somail at full speed again in the afternoon.
Today this building houses a VNF office (Voies Navigables de France, the government entity that maintains the Canal Du Midi).
