The bicycle path is unpaved but in decent condition.

 

Bicycle Route Description

 

After you have changed to the north bank of the Canal Du Midi in Marseillette, either on the west side or east side of the village, you will continue to cycle along the north bank until you reach the Ecluse de l'Aiguille.  There you will switch back to the south bank again.

 

Historical Information

 

Ecluse de Fonfile (also called Ecluse de Ranchin), 1674, triple lock.  Km 130.702  Height 8.73 m.  Cyclists and pedestrians should be extra careful here as boats often tie themselves down to the surrounding trees, making their ropes a trip hazard.

 

Ecluse de St Martin, 1674, double lock.  Km 131.944  Height 5.61 m.

 

Ecluse de l’Aiguille, 1674, double lock.  Km 133.707  Height 5.47 m.  The lock-keeper has decorated “his” lock with many odd sculptures including a crocodile, an elephant, and a monkey up in the trees.

Puicheric is called the Venise of the Minervois.  The locals like to call it that at least, because it has 3 water ways inside its village: Canal Du Midi, Aude River, and Rigole de Etang.  Paul Riquet stayed at the chateau there.  The chateau is now a B&B.
